A Grumble….As you know, we’ve been working really hard to make our player area a pleasant and welcoming environment…but there’s already chewing gum stuck in our nice new carpet, grrrr! Please help us to provide you with a decent gaming area by being careful with food, drink and gum, and also by remembering to put cardboard, paper, plastic bottles and drinks cans into the recycling; everything else, including booster wrappers, into the trash.

Free RPG Day - thank you to all those who have volunteered to help out with Free RPG Day on Saturday 16th June - we’re still keen to hear from you if you’d like to GM – if you’fd like to be part of it, please get in touch.

MTG - The dates for the 2013 Core Set pre-release are Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th July; the Release event will be Sunday 15th July – Facebook events will be up shortly. We’re also busy getting a lot of surprises and special side-events lined-up for the Magic Wales Qualifier, which will take place on Sunday 1st July at The Gate Arts Centre, Roath - if you have 50 or more Planeswalker points, you’ll be eligible to play, and if you win, you’ll be on your way to represent Wales at the World Magic Championships in Indianapolis in July! There’ll also be Multiplayer and Block taking place over the Bank Holiday – check out our Magic Players Group for up to date information…And in the meantime there’s the Avacyn restored Games Day on Sunday 27th May – rsvp here!

YGO Epic Dawn Battle Packs – with the new battle packs released next Friday, we’re looking into running sealed battle pack events in store. If you’re interested in taking part, please let us know on the YGO Facebook page.

Tabletop with Wil Wheaton – Get your Ticket to Ride as Wil and friends play the classic Days of Wonder game this week here; we’ve a full complement of Ticket to Ride games and expansions on the shelves if simply watching isn’t enough!

Its Our Birthday! – its hard to believe, but its almost two years since we first opened. To celebrate, we’re inviting all of you to join us for some drinks and nibbles (and maybe a game or two) on Sunday 10th June!

A Call for Games! playARK’s Alternative Olympic Games will take place in Chapter Arts Centre on Saturday 7th July. The event will be packed with the usual exciting menu of pervasive games, digital games and, of course, board games from Rules of Play! As part of the festival, playARK are looking for game designers and creators to submit their games to be part of this year’s festival. To find out more, drop the lovely folk at playARK an email.

World of Warcraft and Cardfight! Vanguard TCGs - It’s our popular Cardfight!! Vanguard games day THIS Sunday - RSVP here; and the dates for June’s events are Wow Sunday 10th June and CFV 17th June – put them in your diary!

New in store from next week – A massive week for new releases….. Hoist the mainbrace, and set sail for treasure and … discarded burgers? The hotly anticipated Sewer Pirates will be with us next week. Also winging its way onto the shelves is the new standalone 2 player game based on Agricola, All Creatures Big & Small. In addition, we have the dungeon-crawling dexterity game with a target you fling dice at (no, really!), Dungeon Fighter, the new stand-alone expansion to the Penny Arcade Deck-building Game, Penny Arcade: Rumble in R’lyeh, and restocks of everyone’s favourite backstabbing co-op, Alcatraz: The Scapegoat. We also have the intriguing new card game, Viewpoint, and the return of the epic Mage Knight. Finally, for Savage Worlds fans, there’s the Beasts & Barbarians Golden Edition.

CCG New Releases Next Week – Avacyn Restored Event decks for Magic: The Gathering, and the new Yu-Gi-Oh Epic Dawn Battle Pack boosters will all be available from Friday 25th May.

Chapter Games Night – we’re back at Chapter Arts Centre in Canton this Sunday from 5.30pm, bringing as many games as we can carry! If there’s anything you’d like to play, please give a shout out on our Facebook page.

Tabletop with Wil Wheaton – the new fortnightly online boardgaming show Tabletop is proving to be a massive success, and introducing the wonder of boardgames to brand new audiences. Wil and the team have already covered Smallworld, Settlers of Catan, Zombie Dice, and will be covering Ticket to Ride shortly. If you haven’t yet seen the show, you can catch up here.

The Politics of Competitive Boardgaming – Jay Cheel has recently released a mini-documentary about how friends interact during competitive boardgame sessions – its well worth a quick look online here.

… A Call for Gamesmasters – We’ll be taking part in Free RPG Day again, on Saturday 16th June. If you would like to help out by running some roleplaying sessions during the day, please get in touch.

… And A Call for Local Gaming Groups – as part of our ongoing revamp of our website, we’ll be adding details of local gaming groups. If you’re part of a roleplaying or boardgame group in South Wales and would like your details added, then please email us details. In particular, we have recently had a request from some young people who are really interested in learning about roleplaying (particularly D&D) – if you have space for two 15 year olds in your group, please let us know so we can pass on details.
